The drive for educational transformation in Edo State gained momentum as principal officers from state-owned tertiary institutions convened with the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Dr. Paddy Iyamu.

The meeting, held at the Ministry of Education conference hall in Benin City, was recognized as a pivotal step toward revolutionizing the state’s tertiary institutions.

The Viçe Chancellor of Ambrose Alli University and Key representatives of other Tertiary Institutions – Edo State Polytechnic, Usen; Edo State College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Iguoriakhi, Edo State College of Education, Igueben, Edo State College of Health Science Technology, Benin City, and Edo State College of Nursing Sciences, Benin City gathered to discuss the future of education in Edo State. The ambitious agenda covered infrastructure development, curriculum innovation, and strategies to position Edo State institutions as leaders in research and academic excellence.

Dr. Iyamu emphasized His Excellence, Governor Monday Okpebholo’s vision of building resilient institutions capable of producing world-class graduates. “We are here today to take ownership of the future of the higher education ecosystem in Edo State. Our goal is to create a system that empowers students and equips them for the demands of a rapidly evolving world,” he stated.

One of the key outcomes of the meeting was the adoption of a reboost academic framework designed to ensure efficiency and consistency across the state’s institutions. The Commissioner also introduced plans for a comprehensive staff capacity-building program aimed at equipping educators with the skills and resources necessary to embrace digital and blended learning.

Another significant focus of the discussion was the creation of a Tertiary Education Sustainability Framework, which aims to diversify revenue streams for institutions through internal and international collaborations. This framework is expected to address funding gaps while fostering innovation and self-sufficiency.

The Honorable Commissioner for Education, Hon. Paddy Iyamu, convened a crucial meeting today with the heads of boards, agencies, and tertiary institutions under the Ministry of Education-
Board for Technical and Vocational Education (BTVE), State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), State Secondary Education Board (SSEB), Edo State Library Board, Edo State Agency for Mass Education.

The event, held at the state’s Ministry of Education conference hall, was focused on fostering collaboration, addressing challenges, and outlining strategic priorities for the improvement of the educational sector.

In his opening address, Hon. Iyamu emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in achieving the state’s educational goals. “We must ensure that every learner in this state has access to quality education and the necessary resources to thrive. This requires synergy among all stakeholders in the education ecosystem,” he said.

The meeting provided an opportunity for heads of institutions to present progress reports, highlight challenges, and propose solutions. Discussions ranged from funding and infrastructure needs to curriculum reform, staff welfare, and innovations in teaching and learning methodologies.

In addition, Mrs. Ononem Brigg, the Execution Director of the State Universal Basics Education Board ( SUBEB), expressed appreciation for the commissioner’s leadership and assured him of the board’s commitment to implementing agreed-upon strategies. “We are resolute in our mission to deliver quality education that empowers our students and positions our state as a leader in academic excellence,” she stated.

The meeting concluded with actionable resolutions and follow-up mechanisms to track progress. The Hon. Commissioner assured stakeholders of his office’s open-door policy and willingness to collaborate to achieve the shared vision for education in the state.

The event marks a significant step toward addressing the challenges in the education sector and reaffirming the government’s commitment to delivering quality education for all and the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu-led administration.
